3/1 Protest @ SJU Basketball Game

Saturday, March 1st was a blustery cold day, but in spite the cold weather at least 60 Concerned Residents of Jamaica Estates, came out to St. John’s University’s Gate Four an hour before the start of the last SJU home game of the season.  The purpose of the rally was not only to send a loud message to SJU’s President, Father Harrington, that the community is united in their opposition to the construction of the proposed off campus dorm on Henley Road, but to distribute literature and inform many of the visiting alumni of the unscrupulous dealings of their alma mater.

The Concerned Residents of Jamaica Estates are outraged that SJU is proceeding with this project, even when many questions concerning the project’s impact on the neighborhood and its infrastructure remain unanswered.

Joining the residents at the rally was State Senator Frank Padavan who has been an ardent supporter of the concerned resident’s plight.

At the height of the event, the cold wind picked up, snow started falling, but nothing deterred this committed group, on the contrary, they appeared invigorated by the challenge.  The chanting escalated Shame on you Father Harrington, No Dorms in our back yards!
